The chairman of Islamic Council of Scholars, Sayed Majeed Al Mashael, launched a clerics’ petition that will be raised to Ban Ki Moon regarding the unfair decision which dissolves the Islamic Council of Scholars.
This came during the large religious scholars’ sit- in which was organized by Bahrain’s scholars in solidarity with the Islamic Council of Scholars.
The sit- in took place on Sunday morning – the second of First Spring 1435 corresponding to the 2nd February 2014, in Al Imam Sadiq Mosque, Al Qfool.
Led by Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Ahmed Qassim, tens of clerics, teachers and students of Hawza, preachers, and Imams have all participated in the sit-in.
Shaikh Isa Ahmed Qassim has also signed the clerics’ petition which will be presented to the Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon regarding the dissolution of the Clerks Islamic Council.
The petition, which was addressed to Ban Ki Moon, included the following:
We, hereby, hold you the responsibility of this humanitarian crime resembled in a verdict issued by Bahrain’s courts, which dissolve Islamic Clerics Council ( the highest religious body for Muslim clerics who follow Ja’afari doctrine in Bahrain ), considering this act is a persecution for our humanitarian right to exercise our religious role, which is guaranteed by article 18, 19, and 27 in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is ratified by the kingdom of Bahrain in 2006.
According to what is stipulated in the doctrines, covenants, and international decisions that protect our right to practice our rituals and organize our religious affairs, we urge you to act on this crime through addressing Bahraini authorities to desist the continuations of the restrictions on the religious freedoms and expression freedoms and to cancel the verdict which confiscates one of our fundamental rights.
